Well today was probably the hottest so far this summer in the UK. It is really great to have some consistent warm weather for a change. This is not a sentiment shared by Henry my long haired German Shepherd dog who is spending most of the day lying on the quarry tiled floor of our utility room.
Yesterday we went down to London to see War Horse which is based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo about a young man and his extraordinary bond with his horse Joey. Set in the time of the First World War it follows/shows the real cruelty inflicted on horses during the war by both sides. It was a really moving story that was brought off by the fantastic life-sized puppets of horses. As an engineer by trade I was totally gob-smacked by the way they brought the horses to life and at times it was hard not to think that you were watching real horses on stage. As a horse owner I could see all the small movements that the puppets were making that made it all look so real. I must admit that I had to concentrate on the story rather than watching the horses. If you get a chance to see it it’s well worth it.
